Kathleen Matthews, Marriott exec and former anchor, eyes Van Hollen seat

Marriott executive and longtime local news anchor Kathleen Matthews, wife of MSNBC host Chris Matthews, is planning to run for the Congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Politico reported today.

Politico said Matthews, a former anchor for WJLA, has long talked about running for office and has started talking to Democratic activists and potential campaign consultants about the 2016 contest.

Bill Turque, who covers Montgomery County government and politics, has spent more than thirty years as a reporter and editor for The Washington Post, Newsweek, the Dallas Times Herald and The Kansas City Star.
