BJP poster boy Modi calls on Tamil superstar Rajinikanth

Chennai: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today called on Tamil superstar Rajinikant at his Poes Garden residence in Chennai.

After arriving at the airport, the Gujarat chief minister drove straight to Rajinikant's residence where the meeting lasted briefly.

The nature of the discussions between them were not known immediately.

Modi was attired in a saffron shirt and dhoti and greeted Rajinikant on the eve of Tamil new year.

The Gujarat chief minister also posted a picture of him with the actor on Twitter.

The meeting assumes significance as Modi visited the actor in the run up to the 24 April Lok Sabha polls, where BJP is contesting in a six-party rainbow alliance.

Though Rajinikant has not openly supported any party, the saffron party hopes the actor's fans would lean towards it and its allies, which is contesting all 39 seats in the state.

Modi is also addressing an election rally in Chennai, the first ever rally after the elections were announced.
